Redondo Beach Concrete Slab
Concrete slabs are a pivotal and popular choice in construction. Primarily used to build foundations and outdoor structures such as cement patios and pool decks, concrete slabs are a favorite for the construction of foundations chiefly because they are superior and more cost-effective compared to other materials. They are also durable and support multiple layers of materials to enhance the strength and lifespan of any structure.
Redondo Beach Concrete Pros is the leading contractor in installing concrete slabs in the Redondo Beach area. Our experienced and talented staff, using industry-standard tools, has been able to outperform expectations for each of our previous customers.

Concrete Slab Foundations
First and foremost, we start building concrete slab foundations by digging perimeter footings and pouring concrete into the soil to create a slab.
There are different types of concrete slabs, depending on the site and the climate.
Slab-on-Ground
This is the most common type of slab and has two types of its own;
- Conventional Slabs: These have deep excavated beams and can be insulated beneath the broad floor panels.
- Waffle Pod Slabs: They sit near the ground and have a grid of expanded polystyrene foam pods as void formers creating a maze of beams in between.
Suspended Slab
Suspended slabs are formed and poured on-site with reinforcement with either removable or ‘lost’ non-loadbearing formwork, or permanent formwork.
Pre-Cast Slab
Unlike suspended slabs, precast slabs are manufactured off-site. They are then craned into place, having been finished or needing an additional thin pour of concrete over the top. Precast slabs are made from conventional or autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC).
Benefits of Concrete Slabs
Having worked on quite several concrete slab projects, we have experienced the benefits of concrete slabs over alternatives. Here are a few:
Thermal Comfort
Concrete slabs are made of materials with high thermal mass, which can help regulate indoor comfort by acting as a temperature flywheel; they absorb or radiate heat, thus creating a heating or cooling effect on the human body.
Durability
Long-life – If proper care is taken, concrete can last for very long. One only has to ensure that reinforcement is correctly designed and placed. It should also be compacted well so that there are no voids or porous areas. Cracking, which can be a big problem for concrete slabs, can be controlled by proper preparations of foundations and using enough water during curing.
Termite resistance – Termites are a big problem for any physical structure. They eat into the material and compromise the overall strength and quality of the structure. Concrete, however, does not suffer much from these pests as it is strong and hard to bore into, provided it was compacted well during construction. Cement slabs can act as a protective barrier against burrowing insects.
Cost
The cost of constructing concrete slabs varies depending on labor and materials used. Using a concrete calculator, we find that materials such as the wood used for shaping concrete can raise the price of the slab by 1$ per square feet. However, when compared to alternatives such as granite rocks, concrete slabs are cheaper.
